Bugani

After completing his studies on the French Horn, composition and choir direction at Bologna and Ferrara Conservatoires, Italy, Fabrizio Bugani studied orchestral conducting with Julius Kalmar and Ervin Aзel both at the Hans Swarowsky Academy in Milan and at Akademie für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Wien. In 2004 he graduated with honors in Musicology at Bologna University where he shortly after received his PhD in Music Philology, and later a Diploma as Specialist in Musical Heritage. Finally, in 2018, he graduated with honors in Composition and wind orchestra conducting from Milan’s Conservatoire, where he studied with Sandro Satanassi. To broaden his knowledge of composition and conducting of ensembles and wind orchestras he has also attended numerous courses and master classes studying with Johan De Meij, Hardy Mertens e Hans Obkircher.

He has devoted much of his time to conducting operetta, theater and film music and by doing so he has collaborated with renowned artists such as actors Alberto Sordi, Carlo Verdone, Pino Caruso, composer Piero Piccioni and Opera di Roma Ballet. A native of Imola, Italy, he also directed his home town’s official wind band and the wind ensemble San Macario, also from Imola, and led both of them to valuable placements at the International Contest “Flicorno d’oro” in 1992 and 1997. He is co-founder and director of the Imola Brass Band and is currently music and art director of the Regional Youth Wind Band ANBIMA Emilia-Romagna.

Since 2006 he has been Academic Coordinator of Imola’s Civic Music School, where he has also been one of the teachers since the start of his career; he’s also Visiting Professor at Foggia Conservatoire, branch of Rodi Garganico.

As a musicologist and arranger his interests lie primarily in the music from the Renaissance to the Baroque, and in compositions for winds from the end of 1700 to the first half of 1800.

He has transcribed and arranged numerous works by many composers, scoring them for various brass ensembles.

His works are currently distributed by Wicky Milan and Cherry Classics Music.
