David

Ferdinand David was born in Hamburg in the same house where Felix Mendelssohn had been born a year earlier. He would later become the concertmaster of the famed Gewandhaus Orchestra and professor of violin at the Leipziger Konzervatorium under the leadership of the same Felix Mendelssohn. He worked closely with Mendelssohn on the latter's famous violin concerto and gave the premiere performance. David's Concertino in E flat for Trombone and Orchestra is one of the most performed pieces in the literature for trombone and is arguably the finest work for that instrument from the romantic (19th century) period.
