Hayes

Edward Hayes began studying the piano with his father and composed his first piece at the age of seven. He attended the Interlochen Arts Academy and the Eastman School of Music, studying cello with Ron Leonard and composition with Warren Benson. In Toronto, He furthered his composition studies with Sam Dolin at the Royal Conservatory. Ed was a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra for seventeen years, as well as Trio da Capo and the Pro Arte Orchestra. He taught cello and bass with the Toronto District School Board for 20 years. In this capacity, he arranged hundreds of works of all genres for small student ensembles. As a result of his founding of The Four Cellists, he arranged numerous works for advanced players. Performances with his wife, cellist Marie Gélinas, in the Symphony Preludes outreach program resulted in further arrangements for cello duo and cello with percussion. Collaboration with trombonist Frank Harmantas has produced several works for trombone ensemble.
