Kuberra

Alexa Kuberra is an active teacher, arranger, and performer in the greater Phoenix area. Prior to her appointment as a 4-12th grade band director in Scottsdale, AZ, she enjoyed four years of private trombone instruction with Dr. John Marcellus during his final teaching years. Alexa holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Applied Music Performance -Trombone and Instrumental Music Education, with high distinction, from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. An advocate for the pop music genre, Alexa writes full-band arrangements of varying difficulties for school-aged bands to spark interest in instrumental music. Her composition and arranging students, some as young as seven years old, have had their works performed and recorded in various contexts. Alexa specializes in teaching beginning jazz and classical improvisation on all instruments. Alexa's musical career began at the Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division in New York City, and flourished under instruction from Dr. John Marcellus, Timothy Albright, Scott Cranston, and Arthur Haecker. Some of her musical awards include the John Philip Sousa Band Award, the Richard Serbagi Memorial Award for Musical Excellence, various trombone soloist awards from regional Jazz at Lincoln Center Essentially Ellington competitions, and the Connecticut Association of Schools High School Fine Arts Award.
