Lyden

Karl Lyden is a trombonist and composer-arranger based in New York City. He has performed and/or recorded with such artists as Lawrence, No BS! Brass, A Winged Victory for the Sullen and is a member of ska-punk band Streetlight Manifesto. He was also the lead trombonist of the 2013 Disneyland All-American College Band.

As a composer-arranger, Karl received acclaim from a young age. His first big band composition “Downside Up” was the 2011 Winner for Undergraduate Orchestrated Work in Downbeat Magazine. Since then, Karl has arranged for various singer-songwriters, swing bands, as well as many trombone configurations. Currently, he is working on a trombone method book comprised of his Slidin’ Slurs exercises designed to improve flexibility and technique creatively.

Karl has also been active in the Broadway and off-Broadway scenes. He has held the trombone chair for several shows: the David Bowie musical Lazarus, A Night with Janis Joplin first national tour, the revue Prince of Broadway, Radio City Christmas Spectacular, the show/concert Rocktopia, and the revival national tour of Miss Saigon (2018-19).

Karl received his B.A. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he became well-versed in jazz and classical. He then completed a Master's at New York University where he was an adjunct faculty instructor.
