Moorthy
Dhruv Moorthy is a high-schooler who currently resides in Chicago IL. He has been very interested in music since he was a child. He is a multi-instrumentalist who started playing violin at age 4, piano at age 5, flute at age 9 and trombone at age 11. He is also experienced in composition and arranging. He has won awards in the CAMTA (Chicago Area Music Teachers Association) composition festival in 2019, 2020 and 2021. At the age of 10, he won the state and divisional level of MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) with his composition Halloween Night. He has been an active member of the Merit School of Music Conservatory Program since he was in middle school, and is currently a student of bass trombone with Mr. Timothy Riordan. He is also a student of piano and composition with Dr. Matthew Hagle at the Music Institute of Chicago. He is also the bass trombonist of the Alta Tensione Brass Quintet in the Merit School of Music, and has participated in summer programs for bass trombone at the Interlochen Center for the Arts and the Eastman School of Music. When he is not working on his musical pursuits or academics, he is an avid cross country runner who enjoys running along the Chicago lakefront.
