Offenbach

Jacques Offenbach was born in Germany the son of a Cantor and became on of the greatest composers of operetta with over 100 to his name including Orpheus in the Underworld. His unfinished opera, Tales of Hoffman is part of the standard repertoire. Offenbach earned his living at first as an orchestral cellist, gradually gaining fame as a conductor and composer in Paris. He was a great inspiration to Johann Strauss Jr. and Arthur Sullivan.
