Prokofiev

Sergei Prokofiev was one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. His output includes great scores in all genres: Symphonic, Operatic, Ballet, Chamber, Choral, Vocal and solo Piano. His greatest gift is his ability to link beautiful soaring melodies in a modernist framework. After the Russian Revolution he traveled the world: the USA, Paris and Switzerland, the Bavarian Alps, finally returning to the Soviet Union in 1935. Along with several others, Prokofiev's music was placed under severe scrutiny and had to be approved by a committee from the "Composers' Union". After WW II, the restrictions on style were slackened and he could compose in his own way. Prokofiev ironically died on the same day that Stalin's death was announced.
